Africa-Press – Botswana. Mahalapye District on Saturday crowned Gorata Ledira of Moralane as Miss RADP while Aobakwe Mojamotho of Mokgenene was crowned Mr RADP.
Keletlhokile Sote of Otse took the title of first princess while Warona Boitshwarelo of Moralane secured the second princess position.
In the male category, Molefhi Pitika of Otse was crowned the first prince and Omponye Kearata of Mokgenene the second prince.
The event, which was hosted by Mahalapye District Council, featured 15 contestants from the villages of Otse, Mokgenene and Moralane.
The participants first paraded the stage in jeans and black and white tops then traditional attires and evening dresses while their male counterparts wore suits.
Officially opening the pageant, Miss RADP National 2023, Ms Gorata Sego applauded the contestants for the courage and determination to participate in the pageant despite challenges posed in living in remote areas.
Sego said it takes a lot of courage to step out of comfort zone and take part in the events such as this.
She said Mr and Miss RADP and fashion show provide an inclusive and supportive environment for participants to express themselves, celebrate their cultural diversity, intelligence and develop their inner beauty.
“The pageant does not only provide the youth from remote areas with an opportunity to showcase their beauty and talent but also serves as an avenue to encourage and inspire other young people living in remote areas to follow their footsteps,’’ she said.
She said the competition goes beyond physical beauty as it incorporates having the confidence, self-esteem and personality to be able to radiate beauty from within.
Mahalapye District Council deputy council secretary- development, Gomolemo Moepeng said the initiative started in 2013 aimed at assimilating Rural Area Dwellers into other economic mainstream activities, to accelerate the economic growth of those communities.
She highlighted that the beauty pageant promotes behavioural change amongst the youth as well as unearthing and nurturing their natural talents to earn a living.
