Africa-Press – Botswana. A unified secondary school is one of the biggest projects to be undertaken by government in Letlhakane this financial year.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Letlhakane on January 22, the MP for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe, said the school which would see classes from Form 1 to 5 would be constructed through the new development manager model.

At present, secondary schools in Letlhakane are said to be having high enrollment numbers, hence Mr Lelatisitswe said the new unified school would help decongest such schools.

Still in an endeavor to improve the quality of education in Letlhakane, Mr Lelatisitswe said an additional primary school would be also constructed in Phase II.

Another major project planned for in Letlhakane this financial year is the 25km internal road, which the MP said would be a facelift of the village.

Mr Lelatisitswe, who is also the Assistant Minister of Health, said the project package included street lights.

A water reticulation project in Tawana Extension is also said to be one of the biggest projects coming up in Letlhakane this financial year.

The MP said the project would also cover Letsibogo ward. Meanwhile, the residents decried the escalating crime rate in the village.

Mr Shadreck Teseletso said Letlhakane had in recent years grown tremendously in terms of developments and population, while these developments brought about an increase in crime, hence appealed for satellite police posts in new wards such as Extensions and Phases of Letlhakane.

Many also complained about the influx and high use of hard drugs in Letlhakane.

The residents also complained about the acute shortage of water that has been going on for a long time in areas such as Tawana Extension, Phase I and II, and Letsibogo Extension.

For his part, Kgosi Baruntshi Kegapetswe of Letlhakane complained about the mushrooming of squatters in the village, adding land board should help such people by legally allocating them land.
