Sechaba Brewery Holdings Limited has strategically bolstered its leadership team with the appointment of Lorato Morapedi, former Chief Executive of the National Development Bank, as a Non-Executive Independent Director. The announcement, made by the Board, underlines the company’s commitment to reinforcing its leadership with seasoned professionals.
Currently serving as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Export Credit Insurance and Guarantee Company Botswana (BECI), Morapedi’s extensive experience and leadership prowess positions her as a valuable addition to Sechaba Brewery Holdings. Her diverse background includes notable contributions to organizations such as ABM University College, Youth Alliance for Leadership & Development in Africa (YALDA), Local Enterprise Authority, Botswana Institute of Bankers, Botswana Agricultural Science Professionals Association, and The Business Place.
Sechaba Brewery Holdings recognises the strategic significance of diverse perspectives in steering the company toward continued success. Morapedi, stepping into the role of a Non-Executive Independent Director, is expected to bring fresh insights and strategic acumen to board deliberations. The company anticipates leveraging her expertise to navigate the dynamic landscape of the beverage industry and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
The appointment comes at a crucial juncture for Sechaba Brewery Holdings, evident in the company’s latest financial performance. The local brewer seems poised to overcome the challenges faced in 2020 and 2021, primarily driven by the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. Months of alcohol prohibition, curfews, and trading restrictions significantly affected sales volumes. Furthermore, the introduction of a sugar tax in April 2021 added complexity by increasing the cost of some non-alcoholic drinks.
Sechaba Holdings, comprising Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL) and Coca Cola Beverages Botswana (CCBB), holds a 49.9 percent share in each company, with the remainder owned by Ab-InBev. As the company charts its course forward, the addition of Lorato Morapedi to its leadership is poised to play a pivotal role in steering Sechaba Brewery Holdings towards renewed growth and resilience.
