Africa-Press – Botswana. Exceptional and capable leadership of Ms Gaone Macholo will help grow and preserve the Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund’s financial standing, the outgoing board chairperson Solomon Mantswe said.

He said he was leaving the fund in good hands.

Announcing his departure during a media briefing on July 31, he said he was passing the baton to the new chairperson Ms Macholo.

“This day marks the end of my journey as a member BPOPF board and effectively as its chairperson,” he said.

Reflecting on remarkable financial growth during his tenure, Mantswe said the fund’s worth increased from P40 billion from August 2013 to P98 billion in July this year.

He said the growth propels the fund to be considered among the level of the top 25 per cent of all institutional investor category.

Mr Mantswe highlighted that under his tenure several strategic initiatives were undertaken by fund, which included implementation of a private equity incubation programme with a deliberate focus on Botswana investments, mentioning property incubation, which he stated was exclusively for Botswana investments.

Giving the 2022/2023 year-end financial brief, BPOPF chief executive officer Mr Moemedi Malindah, stated that the P4.6 billion total growth, offshore equities contributed P2.7 billion.

“From April 2022 to December 2022 active portfolio was under-performing (on Red) and we witnessed a turnaround in January, February and March 2023,”he added.

Incoming chairperson, Ms Macholo, expressed gratitude to the outgoing leadership for their commendable work. She thanked the media for their unwavering support and continuous efforts in educating the nation about BPOPF.
