Africa-Press – Botswana. After a golden season, the Molepolole-based football outfit Majweng Sporting Club(SC) recently threw an appreciation party for its supporters in acknowledgement of their dedication to the club and their love for football.
Public relations officer for the ‘Orange Machine’ alias Majweng sporting club Boago Koontse said it was only proper to acknowledge the support of their followers, particularly after the club’s gruelling season.
“We are here at Suping Farm to celebrate the victory of Majweng sporting club as we were recently crowned champions of Division 1 and simultaneously ascended to the First Division South,” he said.
“We have called all our fans to come and share in the merriments as this was a team effort. In football, a team does not only refer to the players but to everyone who plays a role either off-field or in-field,” said Koontse.
He told supporters that there were great things ahead as the team would be bringing big teams to Molepolole, adding that they should maintain their love for the team to help it to rise to premier league.
Koontse informed the fans that the celebration went beyond the team’s promotion but it also bordered on business as football games draw spectators who then spend on the sport through ticket sales.
“Getting in the upper division like First Division comes along with boosting the community’s economy therefore, our victory is not only for us but for the benefit of the whole community as well,” said Koontse as he further shared the positives that their promotion meant.
Koontse invited investors to join forces with Majweng SC as the team needed to attain financial stability especially now that it would be playing in a higher division.
“This is a stage where there are a lot of expenses; from paying administrations fees such as acquiring of club licensing, payments of players, and paying for transportation,” said Koontse.
He said their wish was to keep their lads and coach Zachariah Musazi so as to maintain their triumphant run going forward.
The team, said Koontse, has allowed Musazi to scout around for his assistant, a physical trainer and a goalkeeper coach so as to be a complete outfit.
Koontse credited Majweng SC for taking itself seriously, saying despite their humble beginnings they had in the past hired high-profile coaches such as Computer Phakedi whilst they were still at Division Two.
Majweng SC will play its debut game in the Debswana First Division South League on September 13 when they face Notwane SC.
