Africa-Press – Botswana. Newly-appointed Maun Industrial Court judge Dr Goodwill Makofi yesterday took the oath of office before President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi. In his acceptance remarks, the new judge pledged to serve Botswana and dispense justice in accordance with the constitution without fear or favour.
Prior to his appointment, Dr Makofi was acting regional magistrate for the north based in Francistown.
He served in a similar capacity in the southern region based at Broadhurst, Gaborone between 2020 and 2021.
Dr Makofi’s work experience is not confined to administration of justice but includes serving as an instructor and training inspector at Botswana Police College between 1987 and 1995.
He also served as Botswana Meat Commission’s senior quality assurance officer based in Francistown between 1995 and 2000.
Between 2000 and 2005, Dr Makofi was deputy chief security officer at Office of the President.
He obtained his Doctor of Laws in 2020 from University of South Africa and holds a Master of Laws from University of Botswana (UB), 2011, Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from University of South Africa, 2005 and a Certificate in Law from UB, 1992.
