Africa-Press – Botswana. The Manual Workers Union has implored the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MESD) to step in mediate, and reinstate Dr Malatsi Galani who is deemed to have been unfairly dismissed by Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST).
Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU) and BIUST have been embroiled in a fight lately regarding the dismissal of the their shop steward, Galani. BOSETU have on numerous occasions disclosed that Galani was fired for exercising his right as the steward calling out corruption. BOSETU further added that BIUST had not followed proper channels in the disciplinary hearing of Galani and perceived the committee to be a kangaroo panel.
Extending solidarity hand to BOSETU in their quest, the Manual Workers implored the university and the ministry to give Galani a fair disciplinary hearing and also switch their focus from him to the institution, which is accused of corruption. “We are calling for the reinstatement of Galani and we are also calling on BIUST senior management together with the ministry of tertiary of education as the important stakeholder in the affairs of the university,” spokesperson Elsinah Botsalano said.
The Manual Workers further implored the ministry to take a look into the raised issues by steward Galani about the institution. “We want the issues raised by Dr Galani to be investigated with an independent body too and their report be made public because this is an issue of national interests,” Botsalano stated.
The mother of all unions further proclaimed it would incessantly support BOSETU in their fight until justice is done. “We are with you in this fight and we shall never surrender,” concluded the Manual Workers Union.
