Africa-Press – Botswana. After more than a decade of living with Multiple Sclerosis, Ms Gomolemo Marumo is stepping forward not just for herself, but also for others walking a similar path.

She will on Saturday embark on a 10 kilometres awareness walk, which start from Nanogang Junior Secondary School to Maruapula. The walk, she said would feature health talks and screenings.

“It’s more than a walk. It’s a reminder that no one is alone,” she said in an interview.

Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2013 after undergoing an MRI and lumbar puncture, she said life changed in ways she never expected.

“My body was giving in. I experienced muscle weakness, blurry vision, and bladder issues. But I didn’t know what it was until the tests confirmed it,” she recalled.

She explained that Multiple Sclerosis is an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system attacks its own nerves.

“The symptoms are not the same for everyone. That is what makes it tricky to diagnose and even harder to explain,” she added.

The World Multiple Sclerosis Day is commemorated on May 30 annually to bring together all affected to share stories, raise awareness and campaign for change.
