Africa-Press – Botswana. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi will attend the 43rd SADC Ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government in Luanda, Angola on August 16-18.
A media release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says key highlights of the ordinary summit will include handover of the SADC chairmanship by President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo to President João Lourenço of Angola.
The release further states that President Dr Hage Geingob of Namibia will also handover the chairmanship of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation to Mr Hakainde Hichelema of Zambia.
“Among others, the summit will also consider issues of strategic importance to the region and regional integration including: Overview of the Regional Economy, Report on Peace and Security in the Region; Transformation of the SADC Parliamentary Forum into a Parliament; Finance and Investment situation; Update on the Regional Food and Nutrition Security; Progress on implementation of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan 2020-2030; and consideration of Legal Instruments for signing by Heads of State and Government,” says the realease.
The summit will be preceded by the meeting of the Council of Ministers, Ministerial Committee of the Organ and Standing Committee of Senior Officials from August 8-16.
President Masisi will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Finance, Ms Peggy Serame, Minister of Defence, Mr Kagiso Mmusi and Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Mmusi Kgafela and senior government officials.
