Africa-Press – Botswana. Serowe North legislator, Baratiwa Mathoothe is finalising divorce proceedings from his estranged wife, Unami Mathoothe.

When the matter came before Justice Bashi Moesi on Tuesday, the Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) MP’s attorney Owen Nsala told the court that they had filed a settlement agreement with the court. “We, therefore, pray that the settlement agreement be made an order of the court,” said Nsala.

Nsala’s application was confirmed by Unami’s attorney, Gaone Odumetse. Moesi then referred Nsala to the parties’ settlement agreement that talks about Quarablast, a company whose director is Mathoothe.

Moesi asked Nsala who owed the P390,000 loan that Quarablast is in debt of.

In response, Nsala said that both Mathoothe and Unami had an interest in the company. Moesi further asked Nsala if both parties are liable for the debt and in response, Nsala answered in the affirmative.

“The debt was taken to purchase a house that is in the names of the plaintiff and defendant. It was used as a surety for Quarablast. The property remains in the names of Mathoothe (Baratiwa) but it remains in the names of the joint estate,” Nsala further clarified.

The parties are married in community of property and in their papers filed before the court, they say that their marriage has irretrievably broken down. The matter will come for a status hearing on June 24.
