Africa-Press – Botswana. Matlapaneng farmers’ group host farmers’ day at Thulakome lands between Takatokwane and Maboane.

The event held under the theme, ‘Climate Smart and Diversified Agricultural: key to Food, Nutrition and Income Security’. Farmers from neighboring associations, including I 11, Tshephe, and Kweneng Beef Association, as well as individual farmers from around the country, are anticipated to attend the event.

In an interview, one of the organisers and also the host, Mr Forcky Tlhapi, said such events not only provided a platform for farmers to showcase their livestock and farm produce, but they were also informative as farmers were taught essential lessons.

Mr Tlhapi described it as a platform for farmers to share their experiences while also receiving useful information from agricultural professionals and advertising their livestock and produce. He further stated that events like this provided farmers with opportunities to form relationships and network with other important stakeholders.

Mr Tlhapi said although they lacked financial support to host the event, it was nonetheless important as agriculture had potential for economic growth. He further acknowledged that they were facing challenges, amongst them transportation for agriculture produce and livestock to the event.

However, he was optimistic of a successful event saying the country has experienced good rains and therefore they were expecting quality livestock and overall produce.

During the event, there will be an auction of the livestock and also horse racing, which will be the main entertainment in the evening. Later, Mr Tlhapi said, there would be dinner for the attendees where they would be treated to various traditional dishes.
