Africa-Press – Botswana. Despite Maun being one of the busiest towns during the Easter break, with scores of visitors thronging the tourist town, Maun police say they have recorded only one major incident , a fatal motor vehicle accident.

Maun hosted some of the busiest events from the ANTUSA games, which attracted visitors from SADC countries, to the Maun Polo (formerly known as the Maun Horse Race) to musical events.

Dennis Zilawe, confirmed that his policing area was peaceful except for one major car accident, which occurred on Friday, April 7th.

Zilwane told the accident which claimed one life, involved a 64 year old male and a 28 year old female whose car overturned in the outskirts of Maun.

“From our pre liminery investigtaions the duo were coming from Gaborone into Maun when the driver, the male, lost control of the car and it overturned. The female was confirmed dead upon arrival at the Hospital whilst the driver is still recovering in hospital,” Zilwane said. Maun Police had not recorded any other major accidents and major crime incidents as of Sunday, besides the one accident.

“That is the only blemish we had in Maun. Even at the horse race or ANTUSA games, which were some the major events, we did not record any major incidents, despite the many visitors,” he said.
