Africa-Press – Botswana. Different medical experts will tomorrow examine residents of Maun and surrounding areas at Life Centre clininc in Maun, free of charge.
The outreach initiative, organised by the office of the MP for Maun West, Mr Dumelang Saleshando, would include paediatricians, dermatologists, physicians, OB Gynaecologists and obstetricians; among others.
MP Saleshando told residents at Maun kgotla on Wednesday that 25 specialists were expected to examine patients free of charge as health was a pivotal aspect of life.
He said people needed to go for regular check-ups even if they did not feel sick as there were silent killers that would not present any symptoms, thus one could not diagnose just by ‘listening’ to their own body.
Mr Saleshando said research had indicated that 46 per cent of lives lost in Botswana annually were due to non-communicable diseases, which he said meant every individual had to go for routine check-ups.
“We have specialists to check BP, sugar levels, eyes, breast and cervical cancer, mental health issues and specialists for children, so you should bring your children along,” he encouraged them.
He highlighted that COVID-19 was a learning curve as many lives were lost due to the fact that some people already had underlying conditions they were not aware of.
He said although no medications would be dispensed at the outreach session, the specialists would refer patients to health facilities for further assistance.
The MP said the outreach was open to everyone; those with or without medical aid, further assuring the public that privacy and confidentiality would be respected.
Meanwhile, he urged residents to visit Maun West constituency office whenever they had issues, rather than wait for his meetings, which delayed resolution of issues.
