Africa-Press – Botswana. Mental health for men is vital in achieving healthier and emotionally sane men, Kgosi Bokamoso Radipitse of Tonota stated during International Men’s Day commemoration on Wednesday in Tonota.
Kgosi Radipitse said men should do away with the traditional mindset that perceived them as stronger beings who could not feel overwhelmed by emotions.
He highlighted that men just like women had emotions that should be taken into consideration at all times.
“It is okay not to be okay as a man and it is part of life that every human being can experience,” stated Kgosi Radipitse and advised the community to desist from judging men who asked for help when faced with challenges because doing so made them fear to seek help.
He said men should be praised for their accomplishments instead of waiting for their downfall and then judge them.
“Acknowledging their efforts can make them strive to do more and better,” said Kgosi Radipitse.
He said the community should embrace the changing culture and accommodate men into it so that they did not feel left out.
If men take part in raising their children, they can easily instill mindset change and positivity and groom them to be better men in future, Kgosi Radipitse said.
Tonota region Men Sector chairperson, Mr Moses Gaboswele complained that men were not actively participating in activities that were meant to empower them.
He urged men to come forth and face challenges they encountered while there was still time so that they could be assisted. Mr Gaboswele said men suffered the worst emotional abuse but they bottled up emotions and at times opted for violence.
Tonota Umbrella Village Development Committee chairperson, Mr Abraham Keletso said men were given masculinity dominance to use it to protect other people and not to harm them and encouraged them to be role models.
