Africa-Press – Botswana. Minister of Higher Education, Mr Prince Maele on Friday toured the Wilderness Airs flight simulator school located at Maun International Airport. The facility, equipped with a lecture room, an aircraft dashboard for practical training, and a sophisticated flight simulator, offers a comprehensive aviation education. He received a first-hand demonstration of the flight simulator, experiencing simulation of flight conditions. The simulator uses advanced software and hydraulics to recreate sensations of take-off and landing, responding to the pilot’s controls with accurate depictions of wind, turbulence, and instrument readings.
It also provides a safe and effective environment for students to learn and practice essential piloting skills. Mr Maele praised the Wilderness Air Flight Simulator, underscoring government support for Aviation. He expressed strong approval of the Wilderness Air flight simulator, commending it as one of the best. He emphasised government’s commitment to supporting aviation sector, noting that the school’s students fall under his ministry’s purview of higher education. Minister Maele also highlighted the significant economic contribution of the aviation industry, particularly its role in providing opportunities for young people in the burgeoning sector. While acknowledging that its importance would not always immediately be recognised, he said the aviation authority was a key player in Botswana’s economic growth.
Wilderness Air Managing Director, Mr Kago Paul highlighted the institution’s potential for regional growth. He emphasised that Wilderness Airs, aimed to become one of the premier flight training schools in Southern Africa, eventually accepting students from the entire SADC region.
He attributed the facility’s choice of location in Maun to its pivotal role as Botswana’s tourism heartland. Mr Paul further underscored the school’s advanced curriculum, stating that graduates were well prepared to pursue advanced piloting certifications for heavy aircraft.
