Africa-Press – Botswana. The Minister of Water and Human Settlement, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi has urged leadership of various departments in Palapye to embrace Bonno National Housing Programme.

Mr Ramogapi said this on Friday in Palapye at a consultative meeting with the leadership of various departments.

He said the government had placed it on them to make Bonno National Housing Programme a success and they should do everything necessary to make it successful.

Mr Ramogapi said Palapye district was lagging behind in preparing for the programme, so they should do everything necessary to prepare for it.

He asked land board to find an approprriate land to prepare for the programme.

He however said that other districts were prepared and awaiting programme commencement.

Furthermore , he said the government advocated for home ownership hence it pledged to build decent and affordable houses to address the housing needs for Batswana.

Through Bonno National Housing Programme, government would address shortage of accommodation and Batswana would be able to purchase houses.

“As government our responsibility is to provide land and the private sector will come with the resources, the intention is not to give the investors the same land but to develop the area then Batswana can buy those houses at an affordable rate,’’ he said.

Palapye district council secretary Mr Oboikanngo Kuti said, the council was faced with shortage of accommodation and the council would be happy to partner with the private sector.

The acting district commissioner for Palapye district Mr Tsholofelo Molobe assured the minister that they would establish a committee, which would help come up with a the best suited model that could benefit all.

He said they would also make contact with the policy coordination office at ministry level and submit their contributions to assist them.
