Africa-Press – Botswana. The signing of a Shareholder Compact between the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs and Botswana National Productivity Centre is a commitment to ensure improved performance and service delivery in respective roles.

Explaining the significance of the agreement during the signing ceremony on Tuesday, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Ms Anna Mokgethi said the agreement was designed to enhance governance and oversight of public Enterprises by fostering effective interaction between the board and the shareholder whom in this case was Government as represented by her ministry.

“Today’s ceremony is necessitated by the lapse of the previous Shareholder Compact as well as the shift in policy direction, which compels the centre to make necessary adjustments to make the necessary impact by improving national productivity and competitiveness,” she said.

Minister Mokgethi also noted that the agreement between the two entities was made to address government’s concerns and challenges in operations of parastatals, which included among others, inadequate performance, poor resource management, slow adoption of best corporate governance practices and in other extreme instances unethical practices.

For her part, BNPC board chairperson, Professor Dorothy Mpabanga expressed her gratitude towards government for entrusting them with such a responsibility.

She said the signing agreement was signed at the perfect time, coinciding with President Masisi’s Mindset Change campaign.

Professor Mpabanga affirmed that they would ensure that all BNPC responsibilities were fulfilled.

She was hopeful that their collective efforts would significantly aid the government, specifically through the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs, to successfully achieve its productivity mandate of enhancing service delivery.
