The NHI is a key priority of the Ministry, aimed at ensuring quality health services are accessible to all Batswana, regardless of socio-economic status. The engagement seeks input from stakeholders across all sectors to inform the drafting of the NHI policy and Bill.

Chobe District Councillors expressed strong support for the initiative, emphasizing that the NHI will provide equal health benefits to all citizens. They tasked the Ministry with ensuring the successful implementation of the scheme.

Councillors also recommended that the Ministry consider lessons from the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, particularly regarding operational efficiency and governance structures.

The Ministry highlighted that the stakeholder engagement process is ongoing and inclusive, aiming to gather diverse perspectives to design a health insurance system that is fair, effective, and sustainable.

The discussions signal a collaborative approach to health reform in Botswana, reinforcing the government’s commitment to universal access to quality health care.
