Africa-Press – Botswana. Wednesday afternoon the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs held an International Men’s Day commemoration in Artesia. The theme focused on supporting men and boys and creating environments that help them thrive with integrity and compassion.

Kgosi George D Thwane opened the event. He said men are the pillar of the home and the community. He urged men to become emotionally aware and assertive. He encouraged them to manage anger and strengthen emotional intelligence. He also praised men who choose peace and reject harmful behavior.

GBV activist Desmond Lunga from Men and Boys for Gender Equality addressed the attendees. He highlighted the need to guide men toward peaceful and loving behavior. He explained that the Brothers Arise program aims to reduce and stop gender based violence. It also encourages men to test for non communicable diseases. He called on men to take part and advocate for change.

The Vice Chair of the National Gender Commission Dr Morenaogaufi Rankopo encouraged men to visit clinics, priests and social workers. She said early support helps prevent GBV and suicide.

The Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs Hon Lesego Chombo spoke to the crowd. She stressed the need to celebrate and appreciate the contributions of men in society, families and communities. She also highlighted the importance of raising awareness about issues that affect men across the world. She asked communities to build environments that support responsible behavior, education, employment and mental health services for men and boys.

The event closed with a call for unity. Speakers urged citizens to support both men and women in promoting gender equality. They encouraged stronger collaboration between government, businesses, NGOs and communities to ensure fair treatment for all.
