Miss Botswana concludes auditions

Africa-Press – Botswana. The Miss Botswana team has, on Saturday and after weeks of travelling throughout Botswana, successfully concluded auditions for the pageant to be held next year.

The search for Miss Botswana 2024 candidates began at Kwalape Safari Lodge in Kasane in October and the auditions team was led by former Miss Botswana queens including Oweditse Phirinyane of 2019 and Nicole Gaelebale of 2017, who is also the pageantry producer.

Auditions were conducted in over 20 locations including, among others, Ramotswa, Serowe, Palapye, Jwaneng, Kanye, Mahalapye, Francistown, Selebi Phikwe, Moshupa and Lobatse.

In an interview, Gaelebale said the Gaborone auditions on Saturday received a remarkable turnout, with numerous aspiring beauty queens showing interest.

She said during the auditions, candidates were asked to introduce themselves, allowing the panel to assess their public speaking skills and confidence levels.

Panelists also assessed not only the candidates’ vocal abilities but also their stage presence, focusing on qualities such as posture, walk and body language.

She added that they were also seeking confidence, poise and grace in the candidates, hence the importance of projecting a positive and friendly attitude when interacting with them.

Also, she said all candidates were required to showcase their talent because that played a significant role in determining their suitability for the Miss Botswana 2024 title.

Some candidates sung, danced, recited poems or showcased their acting skills in order to secure their place in the competition.

Gaelebale said another crucial aspect of the auditions revolved around the candidates’ project, which carried substantial weight in the Miss World pageant.

“We are in search of a queen who could effectively represent Botswana at the international competition,” she said.

She added that all candidates therefore had to participate in a community project, not only to contribute selflessly but also demonstrate their character and compassion.

On one hand, she said they had strengthened their collaboration with Miss World South Africa and had the opportunity to attend their grand finale.

Meanwhile, she said even though dates for Miss Botswana 2024 are yet to be announced, reigning queen, Lesego Chombo will represent the country at the Miss World pageant to be held in India in February next year.
