Africa-Press – Botswana. Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele toured the ongoing constituency community projects (CCP) in Mogapi, Mogapinyana and Kgagodi villages.
Accompanied by leadership from the respective villages, Mr Modukanele toured the paving of the 400m road from Mogapi kgotla to Sedimo JSS as well as the 400m road from Mogapinyana kgotla to the cemetery as well as the customary courts at Kgagodi and Maokatuma.
He also toured Mogapi Health Post where government through Palapye District Council extended Mogapi Health Post as well as the construction of the community hardware at Mogapinyana.
Mr Modukanele expressed satisfaction with the workmanship of the contractors and encouraged them to complete the projects on time, budget and quality.
He said government had taken a decision to undertake maintenance of internal roads across the districts because infrastructure development had a positive impact in the improvement of the communities’ livelihoods.
He said community projects would contribute significantly in empowering local contractors, local businesses and in turn improve the general household economy in the villages of Mogapi, Mogapinyana and Kgagodi.
Mr Modukanele who is also the MP for Lerala/Maunatlala explained that the government through CCP projects intended to develop infrastructure in rural areas to promote employment creation as well as enable local businesses to thrive.
He added that this move would help reduce rural-urban migration, urging local contractors awarded the tenders to employ the youth in those respective villages.
VDC chairperson for Mogapi, Mr Tebatso Maphane thanked the government for the CCP projects going on in their village.
He said the community was embarking on a hardware project which would be run by the Village development Committee to generate income for the development of the village.
Mr Maphane said the project was still under construction and once complete would sell building material and other equipment to help the community source material closer.
Councillor for Mogapinyana village Mr Asala Masheleng also commended the government for the road construction going on in Mogapinyana village.
However, he requested Mr Modukanele to address the issue regarding the recruitment of the headman of records, saying that the post had been vacant for a very long time.
He said the community of Mogapinyana was compelled to travel to Maokatuma customary court to get assistance, adding that this impacted negatively on the community.
