Africa-Press – Botswana. Two police posts will be constructed in Molepolole during the Transitional Development Plan period, says Member of Parliament for Molepolole North, Mr Oabile Regoeng.

Briefing residents of Magokotswane and Ratlhomelang wards recently, the MP said the COVID-19 outbreak forced government to put the projects on hold.

He said the posts would have seven houses to accommodate officers, noting that they would be build at Magokotswane and Suping wards.

The MP also said Molepolole residents would be given priority when tenders were awarded and that other contractors would be considered in the absence of the required expertise from the area.

On other issues, Mr Regoeng assured residents that measures were in place to build an efficient storm water drainage system in Molepolole.

He said the drainage system would be implemented through constituency community projects.

The MP urged parents to monitor their children and come up with strategies to deter them from drug and alcohol abuse.

He said the youth were at risk of using them because of their wide availability and peer pressure.

Sub Inspector Goodman Mphato said building a police post at Magokotswane would help as the area was experiencing an increase in crime, especially break-ins and assaults. He also said the situation was worsened by high numbers of unregulated shebeens in the area that played loud music.

Sub Inspector Mphato also said the police posts would relieve the Molepolole Police Station workload. He urged residents to form neighbourhood watch teams.

Sub Inspector Mphato said they planned to engage tribal leaders on disciplining children who roamed the streets at odd hours. He urged parents to participate in initiatives intended to fight drug and alcohol abuse among learners.

Magokotswane residents decried the shortage of land and delays in the allocation of residential plots. They said the police post came at the right time as their village was faced with escalating criminal activities.
