Africa-Press – Botswana. Former Bank of Botswana deputy governor, Andrew Motsomi, has been appointed managing director of Debswana with effect from June 1.

Motsomi takes over from Lynette Armstrong who has been acting in the position since August 2019.

“While we were fortunate to have a number of very strong candidates for this important role, the Debswana Board selected Mr. Motsomi as the ideal person to take the business forward based on his strong leadership and strategic insight, honed over a long and distinguished career with the Bank of Botswana,” De Beers CEO, Bruce Cleaver said in a statement today. “His background will help contribute to Debswana’s continued delivery of outstanding value, both for the people of Botswana and De Beers Group.”

Motsomi’s professional career spans 30 years and besides the Bank of Botswana, includes an attachment at the IMF in Washington DC, USA as a Special Appointee.

He also served as chairperson of the Board of Trustees for the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA).

The new managing director’s contract is for five years.
