Africa-Press – Botswana. The envisaged Bobirwa District Council should be completely independent from Gammangwato, particularly Serowe, in order to enjoy full autonomy.
Member for Parliament for Bobonong, Mr Taolo Lucas said this in a series of meetings in his constituency recently, saying for the new district to run autonomously, unfettered by interference from Serowe, it should have a fully fledged land board and a paramount chief.
Mr Lucas said with Bobonong Sub-land Board and kgosi still reporting in Serowe, the performance of the district and recognition remained suspect and hampered.
The legislator said even though upgrading Bobonong Sub-District Council was a welcome and overdue development, his electorate should lobby for complete independence from Gammangwato.
He argued that as a full district, they would be deserving a paramount chief, not the sub-chief representative, a position currently held by Kgosi Ezekiel Masilo of
Bobonong. On other issues, MP Lucas informed his electorate that the 70-bed Bobonong hospital that should have long been implemented under the eleventh National Development Plan (NDP 11), would not be included in the Transitional National Development Plan.
Also, he said level one primary hospital planned for Tsetsebjwe and a clinic with a maternity wing in Bobonong would also not be part of the transitional development plan. The said projects, he said, would be deferred to NDP 12, which would be aligned to run concurrently with the five-year political term.
However, the MP said under the transitional development plan, Tsetsebjwe would have a third primary school built while Mabolwe, Semolale and Gobojango villages would be connected to Thune water scheme.
