Africa-Press – Botswana. Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse will lead a delegation of members of parliament to the 150th Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and related meetings billed for Tashkent, Uzbekistan from April 5 to 9.

The delegation will attend the IPU General Assembly including the meetings of the Governing Council, Committee on Peace and International Security, Sustainable Development, Democracy and Human Rights.

A news release from Parliament explains that the delegation will focus on the overall theme and provide a platform for delegates to deliberate, exchange views and stimulate parliamentary action.

Held under the theme: Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice, the assembly will adopt resolutions on the emergency item and on the subject items taken up by the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security entitled; ‘The role of parliaments in advancing a two-state solution in Palestine, and by the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development entitled; Parliamentary strategies to mitigate the long-lasting Impact of conflicts, including armed conflicts, on sustainable development.

The release further explains that the assembly is expected to conclude with the adoption of an outcome document on the overall theme of the general debate.

The association of secretary generals of parliaments, which is attended by clerks of parliaments will also meet alongside the 150th IPU Assembly, to share best experiences of Parliamentary processes and procedures.

The clerk of the National Assembly, Dr Gabriel Malebang will also attend the meeting.

The delegation departed on Tuesday and is expected back home on April 12.
