Africa-Press – Botswana. Minister of Environment and Tourism, Mr Dumezweni Mthimkhulu addressed some British legislators from the House of Lords, peers and other stakeholders at the House of Commons on Monday, to lobby against the British Parliament passing the Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill.

He said Botswana was one of the most successful countries in the world in terms of wildlife conservation and had managed to keep increasing the numbers of wild animals across all species.

He pleaded with the legislators to consider the rural communities who live adjacent to wildlife areas and will be directly affected by the Bill.

Kgosi Tawana II of Batawana and Ngamiland Council of Non-governmental Organisations director, Mr Siyoka Simasiku, also made their presentations.

Director in the International Conservation Affairs Director General’s office, Professor Patience Gandiwa represented Zimbabwe to lobby against the Bill.

The Bill seeks to ban the importation of hunting trophies of various species covered by CITES into the United Kingdom.
