Africa-Press – Botswana. Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA) has renewed their partnership with Botswana Cycling Association (BCA) with three years.

The BCA president, Kagiso Potongwane, said during the signing ceremony that the partnership would see both parties supporting each other in promoting road safety and accident prevention.

Among the key objectives of the partnership agreement, both parties will provide opportunities for education and participation of cyclists in road safety awareness initiatives and activities.

“We will also as the BCA work with the MVA Fund to promote the sport of cycling as a means of health promotion and mobility in Botswana,” said Potongwane.

He thanked MVA Fund management for renewing the partnership agreement, saying it would go a long way in assisting the BCA achieve their mandate as a national sporting association. MVA Fund Injury Prevention Manager – Road Safety, Thatayaone Mokakangwe said they renewed and extended the partnership to continue raising awareness about the safety of vulnerable road users being cyclists, pedestrians, the elderly and young people.

Mokakangwe said the partnership was also aimed at advocating for safe mobility best practices, which called for provision of safe cycling and walking infrastructure within the road network.

“The MVA Fund will also assist the BCA with resources and expertise in road safety awareness,” said Mokakangwe adding that cyclists’ fatalities were currently still low compared to other road users in Botswana.
