Africa-Press – Botswana. MYGA and Orange Botswana have called for stronger collaboration to accelerate youth development and gender equality initiatives across Botswana. The organisations emphasised aligning resources and programmes to maximise impact, particularly for young people and women.
The discussions highlighted key areas for intervention, including expanding financial literacy, entrepreneurship support and mentorship for youth and women. Stakeholders also focused on leveraging mobile platforms, SMS communication and community-based outreach to reach underserved populations effectively. Existing community programmes and expositions were identified as valuable channels for engagement and awareness.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Lesego Chombo underlined the importance of refurbishing youth centres nationwide, with special attention to locations such as Ghanzi. She stressed the establishment of computer labs to bridge the digital divide, enhance access to education and develop practical skills among young people. These initiatives, she noted, align with the Youth Policy, which prioritises education, digital inclusion and global citizenship.
On gender equality, Minister Chombo emphasised women’s economic empowerment, building technical capacity and strengthening political leadership. She also highlighted the importance of male inclusion and proactive measures to prevent gender-based violence.
The Minister concluded by welcoming partnerships with the private sector, including Orange Botswana, to drive inclusive and sustainable development for youth and women. Strengthened collaboration, she noted, will help create opportunities that foster skills, entrepreneurship and leadership across communities nationwide.
