Africa-Press – Botswana. Naledi Senior Secondary School, as a school of excellence, will this term start Form Four pupils on the new vocational subjects that the Ministry of Basic Education has introduced.
Speaking during the orientation of more than 840 Form Four pupils on Tuesday, Naledi SSS deputy school head, Mr Best Bechwa said the new subjects were part of the ministry’s phase two roll out of the vocational syllabus.
The syllabus comprises subjects such as Clothing and Textile, Food Studies and Innovation and Design as well as Aesthetics, among others.
He also said all Form Four pupils would be given laptops as part of the education system transformation.
Mr Bechwa praised the initiative indicating that it was time pupils did subjects according to their capabilities.
He said many had different talents and that it would give all pupils the opportunity to excel at what they did better.
He said pupils who would be doing vocational subjects would be given about 12 periods in a day as they would be gaining practical experience that needed more time.
When welcoming pupils to the school, the school head, Mr Othusitse Othusitse congratulated the pupils for having been admitted at the school of excellence.
He also said they should know that teachers were only facilitators who were assisting them to learn.
For those who were hooked on alcohol and drugs, he encouraged them to inform the guidance and counselling division so that they got assistance to deal with the addiction.
He also said drugs and alcohol were prohibited in the school and that any pupil who would be caught indulging in such would be expelled.
