South Africa was caught by surprise when Namibia and Botswana announced a ban on several crops such as tomatoes, onions, potatoes and carrots. The two countries claimed that they can’t develop their agricultural industries if over 90% of fresh produce is coming from South Africa. Despite the agreements in place to enhance trade in the continent, more countries are grappling with trying to safeguard their agricultural prospects.
