Acting President and Minister of Finance, Ndaba Nkhosinati Gaolathe, has emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing unemployment, infrastructure decay, and the prudent management of public funds. He made the remarks while addressing a kgotla meeting at Bophirima Ward yesterday.
Mr. Gaolathe detailed plans to revive state-owned enterprises, strengthen agriculture, and improve rail and air transport systems to enhance trade and stimulate economic growth. He also highlighted water shortages and the expansion of the digital economy as critical areas for national development.
The Acting President explained that the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme (BETP) is central to the government’s strategy. The programme aims to diversify income streams, empower citizens through technology, and reinforce health and education systems. He added that recent international engagements have secured over USD 246 million to support Botswana’s economic revival and development initiatives.
“Botswana is heading to her ‘True North’,” Mr. Gaolathe affirmed, underlining the government’s focus on sustainable growth and long-term prosperity. The initiatives signal a concerted effort to create jobs, improve infrastructure, and position Botswana for a resilient and diversified economy.
The kgotla meeting reinforced the government’s commitment to engaging communities directly, ensuring citizens are informed and involved in shaping the country’s economic future.
