Africa-Press – Botswana. A total of 167 Botswana Prison Service officers on Saturday May 13 received medals of different categories during the organisation’s 65th anniversary held in Mahalapye.

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, assisted by Vice President Slumber Tsogwane and Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi, bestowed the prestigious meritorious service medal on Deputy Commissioner Keneilwe Mokwenaotsile and Senior Assistant Commissioner Sekano Sekano.

The medal, the organisation’s highest, is awarded for service of an exceptionally meritorious nature which has contributed outstandingly to the development of the prison service in particular and Botswana generally.

Deputy Commissioner Mokwenaotsile also received the jubilee service medal along with 23 other officers for serving at least 25 years continuously with a good service record.

Some 69 serving officers were honoured for meritorious service with exemplary record of at least 30 years of continuous service while one medal was awarded posthumously to Sgt Moemedi Rabogadi.

In the long service and good conduct category, 71 officers with at least 18 years of continuous service were honoured, one posthumously.

Awardees included assistant commissioners Olebile Kebuang and Leonard Ntshebe.

The organisation has reportedly incorporated Reset Agenda priority number five, mindset change, into its organisational performance plan by ensuring that officers at all levels were capacitated.

The day was celebrated under the theme: Building a High Performance Culture: Repositioning, Re-aligning and Re-engineering the Prison Service to achieve its mandate.
