Africa-Press – Botswana. The power outages that have bedevilled the Kgatleng East villages will be a thing of the past come July when the ongoing power connection is completed.

This was said by the area MP, Mr Mabuse Pule during a kgotla meeting in Ramonaka recently.

He said the project, that would attract three contractors, would also open up job opportunities for members of the community.

Mr Pule, who is local government and rural development assistant minister, said the planned connection was a true testament of government’s commitment to delivering on election campaign promises.

On health issues, he said despite the shortage of medicines currently being experienced in the country, government remained committed to delivering primary health services.

He said efforts were underway to address the situation and advised residents to continue visiting health facilities.

Mr Pule encouraged residents to adopt healthy living to minimise the chances of contracting lifestyle-related illnesses.

The MP apprised residents on some laws passed by the just-ended Parliament session among them the Transfer Duty Act and the amended Electoral Act.

He explained that the amendment increased registration fees for council candidates from P100 to P200 and from P500 to P1 000 for MPs.

Residents heard that Mmathubudukwane had was now a service centre for the river villages and currently offered services twice a week.

About envisaged development projects, residents were told that they included the tarring of Mabalane-Modipane 25km road and paving of the 15km road from the kgotla to Ramotlabaki Primary School.

Kgosi Kgwefane Letshwiti of Ramonaka commended government for connecting the river villages to the power grid.

He encouraged Ramonaka residents to fight stock theft saying it was rife in the village.
