Africa-Press – Botswana. Police volleyball clubs will not participate in the upcoming Zone VI volleyball club championships which are slated for Lesotho, it has been revealed. Instead, Kutlwano (men and women), University of Botswana Yaros (men), Mag Stimela (men and women), Mafolofolo (women, Spiking Stars and BDF VI (men and women) will represent Botswana.
Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) vice president-administration, Ndibo Lebala said he received reports that Police would not be travelling today (Friday). “They informed me that they had challenges and would not be travelling to the competition. Atleast they should have sent only one team, especially the women’s side. It has lots of young players who graduated from the junior team.
“Giving them an opportunity to play at such stage has a positive impact in the development of volleyball,” he said. Last year, Police women team took part in the competition when it was held in Zambia where they finished in position two. Lebala said as BVF there is nothing they can do with the situation.
For their part, Police volleyball women coach, Shimaka Ngwanaotsile confirmed that they will not be travelling to Lesotho. “It is hard for my players, they still cannot believe that they are not travelling,” he said. Police volleyball women team has been unstoppable, winning the BVF Mascom tournament followed by the Golden Cup.
On the other hand, the men’s side settled for the second position during the Golden Cup after a slim loss against Kutlwano. The club championships feature teams from Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Eswatini, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia and from the hosts Lesotho. The games are scheduled for December 7 to 17 2023 in Thaba Bosiu, Maseru in Lesotho.
