Official Calls for Effective Service Delivery

Africa-Press – Botswana. Public servants have been implored to ensure effective service delivery to better the lives of all Batswana.

The call was made by North West District Commissioner, Mr Thabang Waloka during the closing ceremony of a three-day team building exercise held at Xakanaxa camp in the Moremi Game Reserve for employees under the Ministry of State President.

He said some members of the community were not satisfied with services they get and motivated employees to be empathetic, go an extra mile, work as a team and serve the communities to meet their expectations.

He said they should understand that the new government was keen to ensure services were delivered to all Batswana as efficiently and effectively as possible hence they should pull up their socks and support the government on that.

“We have a new administration that is committed to the upliftment of livelihoods of the communities and our President, Advocate Duma Boko always talks about agility and that calls all of us to come up with solutions to address problems that hamper delivery of quality services to communities,” he added.

Mr Waloka urged employees to acknowledge that the team building exercise aimed to motivate them so that in turn they could offer quality service to the people. He said the exercise aimed to give them an opportunity to introspect as individuals and see how each could enhance overall team performance and productivity in the workplace.

Employees were drilled on various topics such as emotional intelligence, self-awareness and personalities in the workplace.

Mr Waloka was hopeful that such teachings would help them change their mind-set and strive to meet targets and achieve common goals of their organisations.

“You should take these teachings seriously as they offer critical skills for building strong relationships, communicate effectively and navigating challenges. They provide opportunities for us as team members to learn each others’ strengths and weaknesses, allowing for more effective division of tasks and utilization of individual skills,” he added.

Maun Stanbic Bank branch manager, Mr Othusitse Ranko drilled employees on financial literacy saying it was a very important topic even when inducting new employees. He said some people lacked financial management knowledge citing that some research findings indicated that finance issues significantly affected mental health often leading to increased stress and even depression.

“As organisations, you should invest in financial literacy and make it part of the on-boarding exercise before employees commit their salaries. This can help them to have a mind-set where they could use their money wisely. As financial institutions, we are available to help in that regard because we do not want to see people retiring in debts,” he emphasized.

Mr Ranko advised employees to be financially disciplined saying they should have financial plans where they set realistic budgets and look into the future where they create savings plans for retirement and seek sound opportunities for investments.

By embracing financial discipline, he said they could achieve a stable and secure financial status saying one would be able to successfully manage their finances, prevent accumulating debts and handle unexpected expenses.

Employees were encouraged to live within their means and invest more in property to generate income. Mr Ranko said they should avoid bad debt because recovering from it was a challenge.
