Africa-Press – Botswana. Plans are underway to build a full-fledged new clinic in Mokubilo. The clinic will be equipped with a maternity wing, and will serve the surrounding villages of Mosu, Mmeya, Makgaba, and Matsitama.
Addressing a kgotla meeting in the village on January 18, the Member of Parliament for Boteti East, who is also the Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe said the project has been included in the two-year National Transition Development Plan.
Mr Lelatisitswe said the government approved its planning and was awaiting construction to begin, as funding has already been secured.
He said Mokubilo was chosen because the village is strategically located in the centre, making it accessible to other villages in the area.
“It is hoped that the new clinic will provide the much-needed health care services to the residents of Mokubilo and the surrounding villages.
This is a great step forward for the community, which has long been under-served in terms of health care,” he said.
Mr Lelatisitswe said with the clinic, people would have better access to preventative care, treatment for chronic conditions, and other vital services.
He pleaded with the residents to familiarise themselves with the Temo Letlotlo programme, which is a new baby on the bloc.
He explained that the programme was new and it is possible that there may be some confusion about what it entails and how to use it.
He said the Temo Letlotlo programme was an exciting opportunity for Batswana to generate quick income.
He told the residents that if fully used, a lot of Batswana could improve their living standard within a short time.
He said the programme had many good packages and is designed to have value chain development and appealed to them to take advantage of it.
He explained that each agricultural demonstrator has been issued with a vehicle as a way of promoting the new programme.
He said this was a smart move by the government to ensure that the programme was effectively communicated and implemented throughout the country.
Mr Lelatisitswe informed the residents that the White Paper on the constitutional amendment review would be presented in the next Parliament session for discussion.
He appealed to the residents to register for the upcoming general election in large numbers.
Meanwhile, Miss RADP second princess, Katso Polao of Mokubilo, urged the youth in her village to register in large numbers for the 2024 general election to exercise their fundamental rights to democracy.
She explained in an interview that she had realised that most of the youth have not registered in large numbers but there are only a few days to close the exercise.
Ms Polao also said it was important for the youth to register to vote because they have a stake in the future of their country and community.
“By registering to vote, young people can help shape the direction of their country and have a say in the issues that matter most to them,” she said. ENDs
Ms Polao said voting was a civic responsibility, and by participating in elections, young people could demonstrate their commitment to democracy and civic engagement.
