Africa-Press – Botswana. Christmas has come early for Tswagare residents as Orange Botswana gifted some with food hampers and donated a water tank for use at the Kgotla.
The food hampers came in the form of P1 000 cash presented to the less privileged members of the community to buy groceries of their own choice. The event, which was held at the village Kgotla on November 16, coincided with the handing over of a 4G tower, which was installed in the village by the mobile network company.
Furthermore, residents had a chance to renew their KYC documents as per BOCRA regulations.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Mr Sipho Ntebang said the gesture was meant to take services closer to the people. He said the tower would afford residents good quality access to the Internet, especially the youth who needed it more for school work and research.
“We have brought with us all the services that we offer as a company to better your lives because we realised that you are far away from services,” he said.
He said small businesses had a chance to be helped with other services like Orange Money as it has been proven that it was good in areas where there are no automatic teller machines and banks. “It certainly will save you money and time to travel to far away places when you need cash,” he noted.
One of the residents, Ms Siamisang Molefhe said the gesture was a welcome development noting that they had always travelled long distances to access such services. She hoped that the 4G network, would improve reception on their mobile phones .
Another resident, Ms Omphile Dira pointed out that the service came at the right time because she always wanted to do KYC and apply for the Visa card, but had been unable to do so due to lack of transportation money.
