Africa-Press – Botswana. Paper 4 Africa has donated close to 200 000 exercise books to Molepolole North primary schools.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony at Kutlwano Primary School on Friday, Molepolole North MP Mr Oabile Regoeng commended the company for the assistance.

Mr Regoeng stated that some parents were poor and could not afford to buy the required books for their children.

He also emphasised that the donation was in line with government’s vision of transforming the education system.

He said the donation would benefit over 10 000 pupils in the 10 primary schools in his constituency.

Shared equally among the schools, he said, each school would get about 19 000 books.

However, he noted that the school heads had agreed to give more books to schools that were in dire need and that they also considered the size of schools when distributing the books.

In his appreciation remarks, Kgosi Joseph Gabobegwe of Boribamo ward said although he appreciated the noble gesture by Paper 4 Africa, the shortage of books should not be an impediment to learning.

He said teachers had to ensure that the method of delivery was top notch in order for pupils to master the concepts well.

Paper 4 Africa representative, Ms Lydia Selao said her company first donated books in Molepolole in 2021.

She said although they wished to donate to more schools, the challenge was that they were experiencing delays of some books they had procured owing to the consequences of COVID-19.

She, however, pledged that they would donate pencils, pens, rubbers, rulers and other books for every pupil in the 10 schools.

Phuthadikobo Primary School head, Mr Sebilo Motlhaping commended Paper 4 Africa for the donation, saying the books came when schools were in dire need of books since government was experiencing financial constraints.

He also said schools in the constituency were experiencing an influx of pupils.

He, however, promised that they would produce good results despite challenges they were facing.

Area councillor, Mr Allen Jacobs also applauded the company for the donation and said families were experiencing financial challenges because of the effects of COVID-19.

He thanked Paper 4 Africa for uplifting the burden from families as well as government.
