Africa-Press – Botswana. Determination to preserve and protect the world’s wilderness requires collaboration, shared vision and the pooling of diverse strengths, managing director of Okavango Wilderness Safari Company, Mr Joe Matome has said.
The company alone, he said, during a stakeholder engagement held over the weekend, could not achieve the conservation efforts hence collaboration with all players such as local community, conservation organisations and government to ensure sustainable tourism.
“At Wilderness, we believe in partnerships as the cornerstone of success and our success is deeply rooted in the relationships we cultivate,”he said.
Mr Matome said such partnerships enabled them to protect wildlife, uplift communities and offer guests a transformative experience. The company’s greatest strength, he said, lied in the ability to work together, citing that every partner was an integral part of the journey to achieve more than what they could alone.
The company board chairman, Mr Kabelo Binns said they valued partnerships and collaboration, noting that the impact they achieved was testament to the dedication and passion of those involved in their journey.
He reflected on the themes of change, impact and progress saying those were the concepts at the core of what the company did.
The company, he said had evolved over the years adapting to new challenges and seizing new opportunities but through all that change, their commitment to protecting the wilderness/ecosystem remained steadfast.
“Impact is the measure of our success, we do not simply seek to leave a mark but we aim to create a lasting positive legacy whether it is through conservation efforts, our support for local communities or the unforgettable experiences we offer to our guests, our focus is always on making a meaningful difference,” he added.
Mr Binns informed the gathering that Wilderness Mokete, the latest new product in the Wilderness Botswana portfolio had just been named as one of the winners of the Architectural Digest’s Great Design hotel awards adding that even more incredible was that the Wilderness Mokete was the only African winners this year.
Wilderness Group chief executive officer, Mr Keith Vincent said the country’s rich landscapes, vibrant wildlife and resilient communities inspired their vision to protect the world’s wilderness noting that their commitment to conservation was unwavering as they believed tourism when done responsibly, could be a powerful force.
