Africa-Press – Botswana. The exercise to issue new land certificates to plot owners by the Nata Sub Land Board will commence in September in Nata/Gweta and all other areas which fall under their jurisdiction. Nata Sub Land Board secretary, Mr Otukile Motukwa said following the exercise of re-registration of plots allocated to individuals across all the Land Boards in the country, people within their jurisdiction will from September start receiving notifications to come and collect their new Secure Land Title (SLT) certificates.
Mr Motukwa was speaking recently in Gweta during the briefing at the office of the District Commissioner for Tutume District consultative meeting on projects.
Mr Motukwa pointed out that the process took longer than expected as the new procedure required that all the records from across all Land Boards be updated and sent to the Deeds Registry in Francistown or Gaborone and at the same time there are international standards, which were supposed to be followed before issuing the new certificates.
Furthermore, he noted that lately they might have heard that some Land Boards such as Chobe have started issuing these new certificates to their people and as such they should be rest assured that theirs are also coming.
He also informed them that the registration exercise has not stopped hence urged them to continue the registration and forward the information to the Department of Surveyors and Mapping followed by the Deeds Registry, adding that this will also apply to layouts of the village. In addition, the Land Board secretary highlighted that their Board members’ term in offices comes to an end this month end (August). However, the process to have them replaced has started and they will be notified after the new Board members have appointed. He also informed the meeting that the Board had allocated 823 plots in Nata, 360 in Zoroga and 136 in Tsokatshaa. He indicated that in Gweta and Maposa they allocated 347 and 111 plots respectively.
However six plots in Gweta were reserved for allocation to needy people as per the request from the Social and Community Development office and this was also the case in Maposa where they allocated 108 out of 111, leaving three for special dispensation. Meanwhile, the acting District Commissioner, Ms Utlwanang Kerekang, said having such a consultative meeting points to moving towards the ‘Mindset Change’ initiative where they will constantly update the community on projects or any other thing, which they are doing as respective government departments.
She said they would hold such meetings constantly to give first-hand information to the public as a way of improving their service standards and working collectively.
Regarding re-construction of the A3 road (Nata/Maun), Ms Kerekang said the process has started and they should look out for the commencing of the project adding that there will be employment opportunities which they should take advantage of.
