Africa-Press – Botswana. Processes are ongoing to complete the absorption of 1 728 Special Constables during the 2025/2026 financial year, Minister of State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa says.
He told Parliament that 5 924 Special Constables had been absorbed into the regular police cadre since the inception of the program in 2004. He said the approval by government to absorb special sonstables into the permanent and pensionable establishment was delayed because of lack of funds during the 2024/2025 financial year. Member of Parliament for Tswapong South, Dr Kesitegile Gobotswang had asked the minister to update Parliament on the decision to absorb Special Constables to become permanent and pensionable public service employees. Dr Gobotswang wanted the minister to state the total number of special constables, and the number of those who had been absorbed into the public service as permanent and pensionable. He had also asked for reasons for the perceived delay in completing the exercise and what was being done to remedy the situation.
