Africa-Press – Botswana. BotswanaPost, in partnership with Brave Heart and Joyous Celebration, has launched Poso Gospel Icon competition, with auditions starting on December 7 in Maun.
The competition is a platform that merges gospel music, community connection and BotswanaPost’s legacy of innovation and service excellence.
The next auditions are scheduled for Palapye on December 14, and Gaborone will have its auditions in January. The competition is expected to run until March 2025.
Gospel Icon competition will be produced by Brave Heart and co-produced by South Africa’s Joyous Celebration.
“We are excited to launch the Poso Gospel Icon. This has been a long time coming and we are looking forward to provide the youth opportunities to explore and nurture their talent. We recognise the power and impact of music in our lives,” said Brave Heart managing director, Joe Manuel.
Manuel encouraged aspiring competitors not to limit themselves to traditional gospel, and explore other genres of the Gospel available.
BotswanaPost Chief Executive Officer, Cornelius Ramatlhakwane, said Gospel music connects people, and that for the youth, it is a place of solace and purpose.
He said through this competition, they are offering the youth a space to grow and focus their energy on something meaningful while at the same time shielding them from distractions that can derail their lives.
“Many global superstars started their journeys in Gospel, a testament to the power of this genre to inspire and uplift. Through this initiative, we are giving Botswana’s youth the chance to find their voice, share their gratitude, and take their talent to unimaginable heights,” Ramatlhakwane said.
He said this competition is about building a legacy for the youth, creating stories of hope and connecting people through faith and music.
Meanwhile, Joyous Celebration co-founder, Dr Lindelani Mkhize, said he believes this concept will change the lives of Batswana youth.
He said his aim since Joyous Celebration creation, has been to change the lives of people through projects such as these.
“The aim is also to change the Gospel face not only of Botswana but the rest of Africa through this initiative,” Mkhize said.
