President and Commander-in-Chief Advocate Duma Boko, accompanied by First Lady Mrs Kaone Boko, attended the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Change of Command Mess Night at the SSKB Officers’ Mess. The event followed a historic Change of Command Ceremony that marked the official handover of leadership from Lieutenant General Placid Segokgo to the new BDF Commander, General Mpho Churchill Mophuting.
The evening brought together senior military officers, government officials and invited guests to celebrate the milestone in the Force’s leadership transition. The occasion was marked by elegance, heartfelt tributes and a shared sense of pride among members of the Defence Force.

In his keynote address, President Boko praised both the outgoing and incoming commanders for their exceptional dedication to service. He acknowledged Lieutenant General Segokgo’s contributions during his tenure and welcomed General Mophuting’s leadership with confidence. The President reaffirmed government’s unwavering commitment to support the BDF in its mission to safeguard national peace and stability.
President Boko emphasized that the Defence Force remains a cornerstone of Botswana’s security and sovereignty. He urged continued unity, discipline and professionalism within the ranks as the institution moves forward under new command.
The evening concluded with dinner, music and dance, reflecting the camaraderie and pride that define the Botswana Defence Force. The Mess Night not only celebrated a change in leadership but also highlighted the enduring values of service, loyalty and national pride that continue to guide the Force in its duty to protect the nation.
