President Duma Boko Launches Indigenous Language News

Africa-Press – Botswana. President Advocate Duma Boko has officiated the launch of news bulletins in iKalanga, Naro, Sheyei, and Shekgalari on Botswana Television and Radio Botswana, marking a historic step in promoting inclusivity and linguistic diversity. The launch, held at Studio 4 of the Mass Media Complex, expands broadcasting beyond the traditional use of Setswana and English, allowing Batswana to access news in their mother tongue languages.

President Boko emphasized that the initiative ensures representation for all communities and fosters greater engagement with national news and information. He noted that over time, more indigenous languages would be recognized and included in broadcasting, reinforcing Botswana’s commitment to cultural preservation and equitable access to information.

The President further expressed his vision for the future, hoping that these languages would eventually be taught in schools across the country. He highlighted that this would safeguard Botswana’s rich linguistic heritage and allow future generations to maintain a connection with their cultural roots.

The launch has been welcomed as a milestone for media accessibility and inclusivity. By introducing news in multiple indigenous languages, Botswana Television and Radio Botswana aim to strengthen national identity, ensure community representation, and provide all citizens with information in a language they understand.
