Africa-Press – Botswana. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi is scheduled to travel to Luanda, Angola to attend the 43rd SADC ordinary summit of Heads of State and government to be held from Wednesday to Friday.
A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says key highlights of the ordinary summit will include handover of the SADC chairmanship by President Tshisekedi Tshilombo of the Democratic Republic of Congo to President João Lourenço of Angola.
President Dr Hage Geingob, President of Namibia will also handover the chairmanship of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation to President Hakainde Hichelema of Zambia.
The release says the summit will also consider issues of strategic importance to the region and regional integration including the overview of the regional economy, report on peace and security in the region, transformation of the SADC Parliamentary Forum into Parliament, finance and investment situation, update on the regional food and nutrition security, progress on implementation of the 2020-2030 Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan as well as consideration of legal instruments for signing by Heads of State and Government.
It further says the summit is preceded by the meeting of the council of ministers, ministerial committee of the organ and standing committee of senior officials, which started last week Tuesday and ends Wednesday.
The President will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Finance, Ms Peggy Serame, Minister of Defence and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi, Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Mmusi Kgafela and senior government officials.
