PRESIDENT MASISI PARTICIPATES IN VIRTUAL SADC SUMMIT

Africa-Press – Botswana. President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi is expected to participate in a virtual extraordinary SADC Summit of Heads of State and government on May 20.

A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says President Masisi will share Botswana’s experiences on drought and national response measures and establish common understanding on cooperation and support with SADC member states.

The summit will deliberate on the impact of climate change on the region, particularly the El Nino-induced drought, disasters and their impacts on the region’s economy, health, water and energy.

The summit is also expected to provide guidance on the region’s response to the El Nino-induced drought and launch a Regional Humanitarian Appeal to solicit support for affected member states.

It will be preceded by the SADC council of ministers meeting, joint meeting of ministers of agriculture and food security, disaster risk management, energy and water as well as the senior officials meeting.

Minister for State President as well as Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Minerals and Energy, Lands and Water Affairs and other senior government officials willalso be in attendance.
