Public Service Act under Review

Africa-Press – Botswana. The Public Service Act No 30 of 2008 is under review with the bill expected to be tabled before parliament in the July 2025 sitting, Minister for State President, Mr Moeti Mohwasa has said.

He told Parliament that the review was approved through Presidential Directive Cab 14/2023, which gave way to the holistic review of all Botswana labour laws. To this end, Mr Mohwasa said the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) had consolidated inputs from the stakeholders consulted and formed instructions for the drafting of the Public Service Bill, 2024. He said the bill would make provision for drafting of subsidiary legislation in the form of regulations for sectors with peculiar conditions of service from the rest of the Public Service Act including the teaching service sector. Kgatleng West MP, Dr Unity Dow had asked the minister if he would consider reviewing the current Public Service Act, with a view to remove teachers from its operation and passing a law that recognised the special situation of teachers.
