Africa-Press – Botswana. Botswana’s 4x400m men’s relay team continued with its dominance in Africa as it won a gold medal at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Africa Senior Athletics Championships held in Doula, Cameroon.
The quartet; Collen Kebinatshipi, Leungo Scotch, Lee Eppie and Bayapo Ndori stopped the clock in 3:02.23.

Kenya came second in 3:02.34 and Zambia won a bronze with a time of 3:02.56.

National team coach, Justice Dipeba said in an interview that he was happy that the team delivered a gold medal as projected.

He said it was not easy as all countries were targeting Botswana.

“That’s why I started with Collen. We told him to push hard and he did that and gave us a lead,” he said.

Dipeba further said he was impressed by the USA-based Eppie as it was his first time being part of the relay team.

“He has shown a lot of maturity and we also wanted to see how he will handle the pressure going to the Olympics,” he said.

Generally, he said the competition went well although they were areas where they thought they would have won medals, but things did not go according to plan.

He said they had hoped that the 4x400m women relay team and 800m runner, Oratile Nowe would deliver medals as well as 200m runner, Tsaone Sebele.

“For the 4x400m women, we had Christine Botlogetswe and Galefele Moroko who were not well, that’s why we had to use Oratile who I believe ran very well,” Dipeba added.

Meanwhile in this edition, Botswana won six medals, with two gold medals won by the men’s 4x400m relay and Victor Ntweng in the 400m hurdles.

Three silver medals were won by Kemorena Tisang of 400 metres hurdles, 400m runner, Eppie and Kethobogile Haingura in 800m while the 4x400m mixed relay won a bronze.
