Africa-Press – Botswana. Member of Parliament for Kanye South Dr Lemogang Kwape has hailed the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) for contributing to the development of the country.

Speaking during the Truth Evangelistic campaign organised by SDA in Kanye on Saturday, he said the church played a significant role in moulding congregants into responsible citizens.

Dr Kwape, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the church was instrumental in the establishment of education and health institutions such as the nursing college, three primary schools and two secondary schools.

He said SDA hospital, one of the first hospitals in Botswana, was a sign of the church’s commitment to the development of the country.

With the country faced with many social ills, such as alcohol and drug abuse, crime and gender-based Violence, Dr Kwape expressed hope that discussions at the event would address most of them.

For his part, the president of SDA in Botswana, Pastor Strike Ben said the event held several times a year, was meant to bring people closer to God.

He highlighted that the church intended to build strong families with children growing into responsible citizens.

Pastor Ben said the church was concerned about the health of Batswana given the many diseases affecting the nation such as cancer, diabetes and high blood pressure, hence the event also addressed such.

“I, therefore, urge the nation to attend these kinds of events as they have the potential to build great nations,” he said.

The church also prayed for the nation and the country’s leadership to have wisdom in leading the country. It further prayed for peace and harmony ahead of the elections.
