Africa-Press – Botswana. Dozens headed to The Escapade by James at Boatle on Friday evening for the music show headlined by South African hot Amapiano musical duo, Amaroto but were left disappointed by the main act’s performance.
The duo, Reece Madlisa and Zuma were making their debut performance in Botswana, after recently winning the Best Amapiano Duo or Group during the first Amapiano awards ceremony in South Africa. Their music has also become a hit among the local music fans, and it was not a surprise that the show, organised by newcomers in the music promoting business Bantu Gold and As Majita, pulled a good crowd. Many of the Amapiano music lovers were looking forward to getting a performance worth their money and time from their favourite artists. However, their festival experience was ruined by sound issues and to some extent security issues too.
What started off as a beautiful night out of fun following good performances from The Girls, Pabi Cooper, Mgiftoz and others, changed at the end when the main acts’ sets were cut short due to sound glitches. Although it appeared the organisers had done well in terms of security, it later turned out that was not enough as many revellers without tickets breached security to gatecrash the VIP area.
This made the VIP area unmanageable and crowded. This would, later on, prove catastrophic as the marshals struggled to get the artists up on stage past the uncontrollable crowd. Finally, after managing to get up on stage much to the crowd’s cheers, Amaroto could only perform two songs before their performance was cut short due to sound problems. The artists were forced off stage as security struggled to fend off revellers who had already swamped the stage while the sound engineers tried to fix the problem.
But when the sound issue was fixed, the South Africans did not come back up on stage, leaving many of their fans disappointed. The same problem had also happened during Busta 929’s set. Many fans could be heard hurling unpalatables, demanding the artists to get back up on stage. Others took to social media to express their disappointment.
